When it comes to The Room, love is blind…

With the help of Sheffield’s The Five and Dime Picture Show, we once again unleashed The Room upon the people of Bristol.

The Room

Putting on a screening of The Room is a tricky thing to do. First of all, you have to negotiate the mine field that is getting permission from actor/writer/director Tommy Wiseau, and then you have to explain it to your audience, many of whom may not have seen it before.

It can be a difficult introduction to nail – luckily we knew the perfect men for the job: The Five and Dime Picture Show‘s Matt Risby and Ryan Finnigan, the latter of whom is also the author of The Room: The Definitive Guide.

Tickets sold out weeks in advance with the film’s reputation clearly preceding it, so it was just a case of making sure that everything went right on the night.

With an audience split of roughly 30% Room veterans and 70% newbies, it was the perfect way to watch the film for the first time.

Ryan and Matt detailed the film’s mythology, cast member Robyn Paris kindly sent an introduction and people who had seen the film before yelled things of note that might have otherwise have passed people by.

Spoons were thrown, Tommy’s buttocks were beheld and famous phrases were yelled – it was the perfect night.

Thanks to everyone that came – according to Twitter, it looks we’ve created a new whole new wave of Room fans.
